Curriculum Update

This week, we began discussing the human body. We started with the three layers of our body: the skin, the muscles, and the bones. Did you know that our skin is our largest organ? Did you know that we have more than 600 muscles in our body? We are also born with 300-350 bones, but by the time we become grownups, we only have between 206-208! Quiz your kindergartner to see if he/she remembers these amazing facts! While we are learning about the human body, we are creating our own classroom bodies to represent what we’ve learned. Look for these on our documentation board this week and next. The children are having a great time using various materials to create the different layers of our body.

Next week, we will learn about the different systems, also known as “all the gross stuff” according to the kindergartners. We’re looking forward to hopefully opening our minds about everything on our insides and figuring out how our bodies really work.

This week’s sight words: are, in, my

Literacy Table

At the literacy table, the kindergartners continued to work at their own levels with short vowel sounds. We worked on three letter CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) for all vowels along with reviewing and practicing our beginning sounds.

Math Table

At the math table, we began learning about coin value. We talked about the 4 main coins that we use in the United States, along with how much each was worth. We did this by using familiar bead bars in values of 1, 5, and 10. The visuals of these made it very easy to correlate the amount each coin was worth. We will continue coin value next week.

Art Table

At the art table, we’ve begun making our human body buddies that we’ve hung in the hallway. Each day, we’ve learned about a different layer of our body and then created that layer to hang. Please continue to check our hallway documentation board for this progressive project to be displayed!

 Have a wonderful weekend!
